Mindfulness

Mindfulness has its foundation in Buddhist practice and has a growing following in Western culture particularly in business. In a nutshell, mindfulness is the art of fully “being there.” It means having a clear and non-judgmental presence, free of distracting emotions or thoughts.

Coaching

Although coaching shares many attributes with other personal and support professions, it is important to understand that coaching is unique in its focus on establishing goals, driving to outcomes and managing personal change. Coaching is about partnering with a client to realize their greatest desires based on their own capabilities.

What Coaching Is Not

Coaching is not consulting, counseling, mentoring, training or athletic development.

In consulting, mentoring and training, it is the expert setting the path and goals; coaching holds that the person being coached who establishes their own path and goals. The great thing about coaching is that it can augment – and improve the effectiveness of – consulting, mentoring and training. It does this by reinforcing learning through application and achievement.

Counseling where the main focus is on healing pain and resolving personal issues. Coaching focuses forward with specific goals and supports personal and professional growth. That said, coaching can complement counseling by providing a framework for practicing and applying newly developed behaviors and attitude.

Coaching does not correct or direct behaviors like a sports coach. Instead it focuses on identifying opportunities for development based on an individual’s or team’s strengths and capabilities.

What Coaching Is

Coaching is a partnership that digs down to one’s fundamental beliefs; it drives to harness the creativity that is at our core as humans. It also opens our minds and lives to often amazing possibilities and it provides the means to create a new and fulfilling future.

Dan is a certified coach with the International Coaching Federation and practices mindfulness. His great passion is to work with individuals and groups to realize their greatest potentials.
